My hometown, Bali, is not only famous for its beautiful beaches, sacred temples, and breathtaking rice terraces. This island is also filled with traditional foods that always make me miss home. 

You can find sate lilit, lawar, ayam betutu, and many other dishes. Each with its own unique flavor. But as someone who was born and raised in Bali, sometimes I get tired of eating the same dishes. 

I want to try something new. One afternoon, while wandering around Jalan Bisma, one of Ubud’s most vibrant tourist spots, I came across an Ubud Indian restaurant that immediately caught my attention.

I had never eaten Indian food before. And honestly, I did not know what to expect. But the smell of spices coming from the kitchen was so inviting that I couldn’t resist. 

Out of curiosity, I decided to step inside and see what kind of new flavors were waiting for me there.

A Calm Hideaway in the Heart of Ubud

So, the name of this charming spot is Chai of the Tiger. It’s a small yet lively Ubud Indian Restaurant that instantly feels like home. Despite its modest size, the atmosphere is remarkably cozy. 

The space mixes rustic Indian details with a young and playful energy. Dim lighting sets a warm tone, while bold wall murals burst with color and character. 

I could also hear Indian songs playing quietly in the background, giving the place a cheerful and relaxed vibe.

What surprised me was the crowd. It is not only Indian tourists who visit, but people from many different countries. 

Some come for the real taste of Indian food, while others stop by to rest and chat. It feels easy to connect here, even if you arrive alone. Somehow, everyone seems open and friendly.

A Journey Through My First Indian Meal

When it was time to order, I looked at the menu and froze. None of the dishes looked familiar, and honestly, I had never tried Indian food before. 

Thankfully, the staff was friendly and patient. They explained each dish in clear and simple terms. 

They also asked about my taste and heat tolerance. That care matters at an Ubud Indian Restaurant that welcomes curious first-timers.

So from what I got, Chai of the Tiger offers a vibrant mix of Indian street food with a Balinese twist. The menu offers street snacks, flavorful curries, sweet desserts, and refreshing drinks. 

Every item sounded delicious, but I couldn’t decide at first. I finally chose the THALI. It’s a colorful platter filled with curries, snacks, and sides. It’s perfect for me to try a little bit of everything in one meal.

I also learned that this Ubud Indian Restaurant caters to all dietary preferences. They offer vegan and gluten-free options for those who need them. Guests can even ask for milder spice levels or ingredient adjustments to suit their taste.

Here, each dish is crafted in an open kitchen, so I can see and smell the action. 

While waiting, I chatted with another guest. They mentioned the atmosphere becomes lively and cheerful. It sounded like a place where food and connection naturally blend together.

My platter arrived quickly, served with a warm smile. The first bite felt surprising yet comforting. 

The flavors were bold yet balanced, with a comforting warmth in every bite. The chutneys added a tangy kick that kept the meal exciting until the last spoonful.

For someone trying Indian food in Bali for the first time, this Ubud Indian Restaurant gave me an unforgettable experience. 

I left satisfied and curious to return. Maybe next time during one of their fun events, just to taste the food and the atmosphere all over again.
